My day job mainly involves doing graphic design and illustration for some quite big companies like Virgin or the National Lottery – which means they usually have to be designed to fit a fairly strict brief or guideline set by the brand and I try and keep it separate from Kookizu stuff because… well it’s just quite different really.
Last year I got to do a project which kind of crosses over both sets of work I do though, so I thought I’d show you! It was a music video for the artist Flying Lotus, directed by my talented animator friend Cyriak.
Flying Lotus and Warp Records were pretty cool about letting Cyriak do whatever he wanted to, and Cyriak wanted to get me to draw a load of little weird robots and a robot city that he could tell a story with and bring to life. Although it’s not my usual mega bright colours, I did try to sneak a bit of cuteness in by making as many inanimate objects as I could have a little face! I think the video turned out quite cute…in a weird way
